Why is my 4D3C-L making a grinding or clicking noise?
 
A clicking or grinding sound usually indicates a mechanical obstruction or a gear failure within the drive mechanism. Continued use in this state can burn out the motor controller on the ultrasound machine's motherboard, leading to much more expensive repairs. Stop using the probe immediately if it becomes noisy.
