How to know if your GIF-160 light guide bundle needs replacement?

The most common indicators are:

1.Dim or Yellowish Image: If the light source is at maximum power but the monitor remains dark or the light has a yellow tint.

2."Black Dots" (Fiber Breakage): If you look at the distal tip (where the light comes out) while the endoscope is connected to a light source, you will see black spots. These represent broken glass fibers that no longer transmit light.

3.Heat at the Connector: If the light guide connector (the part that plugs into the CLV-160) becomes excessively hot, it may indicate a burnt or degraded proximal end.

What causes the fibers in the GIF-160 bundle to break?

1.Mechanical Stress: Frequent "retroflexion" (sharp bending) of the endoscope tip.

2.Age: Over time, the glass fibers become brittle.

3.Improper Handling: Accidental impact or dropping the endoscope can shatter the delicate glass fibers inside the bundle.
